Perhaps they wanted to maintain compatibility with older machines, which is noble, but somewhat stupid if it stops it working with new machines. What I don't understand is why Squared 5 put effort and time into building a custom installer for Lion, rather than change MPEG StreamClip to use the newer direct support.

There is currently no word on whether this customer installer is still compatible with Mavericks., but that would be my first pot of call for trying to get it to work. Besides, it also allows you to extract audio from video and download movies from video-sharing sites. Its a powerful free video converter, offering great processing speeds for rapid conversions from one file type to the other.

#MPEG STREAMCLIP PROBLEMS YOUTUBE INSTALL#
However, the MPEG-2 playback component installer will not install in Lion or above, so to circumvent this, Squared 5 made a custom installer as part of their package, see: 3 Steps to Convert Videos with MPEG Streamclip Alternative. However, MPEG StreamClip is hard coded to use the MPEG-2 playback component and so still needs it to run. However, since OSX Lion, Apple claim the MPEG-2 playback component is no longer needed by OSX (I believe it's now directly supported by Quicktime). MPEG StreamClip needs Apples MPEG-2 playback component. There are a series of short black dashes which run down the length of the right hand side. However, when I use MPEG Streamclip to convert to AVI, the resulting file always ha some 'tracking' issues on the right extremity of the file. Since my needs are modest and occasional, apps like Premiere, etc. I have a VOB which I've spliced and would like to convert to AVI for YouTube. I would much prefer to continue to use Streamclip but i will consider another alternative. The save process was very quick and resulted in a file size of zero bytes. After installing Mavericks, I found that MPEG Streamclip no longer could properly save my edited movies.
